(Why yes, there is a purple pony fiddling with her communicator; it's so weird and why isn't it so accommodating to those who have hooves? Stupid device...

...oh well; at least she figures out how to get it started. Not having magic sucks...)

There's a lot that has to be accounted for here, but I can't be the only one stuck here, right? The note mentioned living near "The White Rabbit" and "Pinga..."

...which brings me to my next question: Merlin? I've never heard of him before, but how is it I suddenly know everything about him? He sounds a lot like Star Swirl the Bearded, but none of this makes sense! And my horn is missing! I don't see the purpose of making me fill in for a wizard if I don't even have my magic with me...

The chance exists; I have not found anyone I know, either. You don't see me getting worked up about it. Just remain calm. Maybe your princess will notice your reports aren't coming and come looking for you.

It's a place called Arcanarum. I've been told it's ruled by beings called The Rulers, who have seen fit to bring beings here to replace characters in various stories.

...I'd like to go beat them into releasing us, but I've been told that is a bad idea.

Then maybe they're willing to negotiate? Maybe I can talk some sense into them once I mention Princess Celestia's name; everypony respects her...then again, if you haven't heard of her, they might not have either.

I'm not sure they respect anyone else's power other than their own, given the way they seem to delight in stripping power from the new arrivals. If they have heard of her, they likely wouldn't care--some of the ones they've neutralized have been fairly powerful.

(And that is a statement which greatly concerns Twilight. And it shows.)

Then if she were to show up, they could take away all of her power, too?

(Just looking up at where her horn should be...yeah, this was not good.)

Then I have to wonder if it'd be better for her to not find this place, but...

It's entirely possible. The extent to which they can go to strip individuals of their power is troubling.

Assuming your reports do not contain time-sensitive information, that sounds as though it would work.

No need? Look, I've been down that road and I thought the same exact thing; I though they would hold me back or just get in the way, but I was wrong. You may be strong now, but friends can make you stronger. Friendship gives you something else to fight for!

It makes you soft and creates targets. Weak points your enemies can use against you. Weak points you have to protect.

(Doesn't matter; you don't tell the pony that friendship is bad.)

Points you want to protect, just as they would want to protect you. Friends work together to cover each other's weaknesses and overcome any trial places before them.

[Hajime is about to say something regarding those being protected as incapable of returning protection, but...Amane runs interference for him in social situations. He secretly saves her from monsters, she tells people bothering him to step off. They do indeed cover each other's weak points. He misses that kid...even if she is a huge liability in an actual physical fight.]

...but why would one willingly open oneself up to such a weakness? It is foolish. It does not make sense.

It's one of those things that can't really be understood until you experience it.

But in short: it provides a kind of comfort nothing else can. Sure it might leave them susceptible to the bad, but they're also susceptible to the good.

Because you seem like the kind of...being to appreciate friends; sure, you're the strong, loner-type who prefers being on your own, but even loners deserve someone to turn to.

Even if you were some sort of monster, you're still conscious enough to not only have a conversation, but think for yourself and not immediately turn to more feral instincts. I'd say that's enough to conclude you can make friends.
