This is stupid. [ First impressions are normally very important to this girl, but today is an exception. For anyone can take a look and see a pair of very tiny black Mary Jane shoes with a thick silver buckle. For a few inches above, one might spot black and white striped stockings, but the angle isn't good enough to spot the owner of said legs. ] A magical device of this nature is sure to cause some negative feedback, but I'm not able to get a proper reaction. How am I supposed to use this for communication? It's not as though I can just call that stupid priest to come and pick me up.

[ There are muffled noises that can only indicate she's still trying to use the device for communication even though she hasn't the faintest idea as to how. For those patient enough to wait a few minutes, she'll have the compact in the right position with quite the scowl on her face. Dressed in a blue dress with a white pinafore that seem to match her bright eyes, she's one of the lucky ones that doesn't have to wear strange attire. ]

Well, it isn't as though I would waste my time asking for his aid. [ The girl must still be rambling on about that priest as she makes a gagging noise. ] I'd be in his debt forever. I suppose none of you know how to get back either. Very well, I want to know where I can find this Alice. If she would return, then I could be on my way. I don't very well appreciate having to fill in for her. [ Her scowl deepens more. ] Especially since I haven't the slightest what makes her important enough to pull me from my studies.

[ Surprisingly, she doesn't waste the effort in introducing herself; Rin's sure that after this message, it will only be a matter of time before she returns to Fuyuki City. ]

☙ACTION❧
[ Looks like it's new housemate time. Unfortunately for the inhabitants of this lovely house, they have what appears to be some evil force that stomps around or well, at least that's what it may sound like. In actuality, there's a young girl who can't be more than seven years old huffing and puffing up and down the hallway. She doesn't seem thrilled to be here, which she expresses by muttering so under her breath. Her fit doesn't last very long; a child can't sit still for more than ten minutes and the door to a brand new world lies just a few feet away.

For those who might be concerned over such a young girl not returning "home", Rin eventually does make her way back to the house after a full day of exploration. Even if her curious nature insists on studying this place, she understands the importance of a curfew. Without Kirei's vexing rules on her mind, she falls into the ones her father always given her; studying, then sleep. Into the later hours of the night, she can be found in her room practicing her enunciation of certain terms and words, trying to master the words that hundreds of men have memorized long before her. ]

[The mental recollection of "Alice" just brings to mind giggling and "Die for me!" Someone turning into that would be particularly... interesting.]

Well, you look really cute! [Ah, judging by the first post, that isn't the right path, but true!] I mean, compared to the things some people have to wear. And, since we might have to trade really weird things for clothes, now, it's good to have something to fall back on. [Where was she going to get a dozen eggs to trade for a scarf?]

Wha-? [ She's taken by surprise with the compliment, her cheeks flushing brightly for the moment. ] What do you mean by all of that? I'm stuck with these clothes unless I can trade something really weird?

[ Someone's yet to make it to the shops. ]

I don't intend to trade anything except for my role in this place back to it's original person so that I might go home!

[There's the creaks of floorboards as Rose heads over, leaning against the door frame.]

Do you like to read a lot? I'm surprised someone at your age is so studious. Most kids just care about having fun and forget the enjoyment of books.

If I don't study, then father will be disappointed in me. I have plenty of time to play and enjoy myself at school. At home though is another thing.

[ Someone who doesn't study at school might give away that whatever it is she's learning at home might differ from the norm. With a smile though, she doesn't realize the naivete of her words, happy to actually be speaking with one of the people here. ]

I'll have to keep studying while I'm here although it won't do me much good. If I can't learn anything new, then I'll be repeating the same material for a long time.

How odd. Most kids try and enjoy themselves when they are home, but I appreciate your effort. More kids should be more invested in books and studying. [She wonders how long this girl has been here. Her father must not be here, right?]

What type of things are you studying right now. I'm not fit to be a teacher by any means, but I wouldn't mind but to help. I'm rather fond of books and literature, so it would do me some good to find others who were more appreciative of it.

Alice... the real Alice... is dead.

[ Madoka feels strange saying this, about a childhood heroine of hers. It was weird. Getting to know she existed and now that she was... that she was... well, dead. Along with all the other original denizens. People she and other children looked up to ]

So she can't return.

[ Well, that does her no good. ]

What happened to her? Besides, I really can't stay here to fill in for her, so I need to find someone else to do this.

She died in a battle to fight for people's dreams and hopes. Or so I was told, lately, by one of those who hold control over this place. Before we've been left in the dark over what happened to the real denizens.

[ Madoka sighs... ]

Sorry, but I really don't have any good new at all. We don't know how to leave, our attempt didn't meet a very good end.

[ Rin's silent for a moment; it's not easy news to take in and for a seven year old who's just lost someone to death, it's even rougher. ]

Your attempt? Does this mean the people here have already tried? Could you tell me more about that?

It's been only a few days ago, actually. We've build a boat together to escape over the sea, but the Rulers found and fought us. We've been punished for our attempt. They're really mighty. It seems they can control us and this realm pretty freely. You followin'?

I am, but the idea behind it isn't an easy one to hold onto.

The Rulers are the cause of all of this, correct? The ones that have brought us here and refuse to let us leave. All of this just so we can replace someone who's died?

... basically, yes.

[ Wow, it did sound pretty stupid. Madoka had been getting a bit too used to the situation lately. ]

It's not just anybody who died. It's motivational characters from fairytales. It seems like their existence is somehow necessary and that's why we're here.

Wait, what?

Motivational characters from fairytales? They aren't real though.

That's what I thought, too. I mean, I liked fairytales, but I never considered them real after the age of... three maybe?

Still, it seems we were wrong. This place is very real and so have actual fairytale people been.

Do you have any proof or are you going based on what these Rulers have told you? [ And sheepishly adding onto that! ] I don't mean to be rude in asking, but it's a weird story to believe from a stranger.

Ah, no, the question makes sense.

I don't have proof as such, but it fits with what I've gathered so far. It's not much, I admit, despite two months worth of work.
It makes sense with this place, I suppose, and frankly, the person who told me about it was the most trustworthy out of the Rulers I've ever met.
But there's also hints as this world itself. When going through the town there are people who are.. not like us. They don't recognize us as different people. I kind of got used to being greeted as 'Cinderella' by now.

It's a lot to take in, I understand that. I was just as shocked when I arrived.

You've been here for two months?

[ That means this person is Rin's elder and therefore superior at the topic at hand. While she'll maintain some level of skepticism, she's more likely to believe her. ]

The most trustworthy of the Rulers? So you've met some of these Rulers personally? [ Hm, Rin's not sure if she'll enjoy being called 'Alice' as she's quite proud of her name, but it'll be worth a shot. ] Do we even look anything like who we're supposed to fill in? How do they know?

Yes... I met them on the escape... And even though I'd been hoping for that opportunity ever since arriving, I have to say I rather wouldn't have. They came to fight us.

And no, we mostly don't look anything like them. I tried to figure out the whole scheme of why we are chosen for what role, but it's been difficult. I, personally, do share a bit of history with Cinderella as we both grew up without a mother and learned doing the housework all on our own, but other people don't seem to have anything in common with their denizens. They seem to rather be their complete opposites somehow.

You fought against them? Do you know what sort of abilities they were able to use? If we can begin to figure their magic out--[ Because it's obviously magic that's bound them to such a realm. ]--then we can begin to use it against them. It might take a little extra work, but I'm willing to do it.

Hm, as for that other part... It seems weird. I don't know a thing about Alice, so I'm afraid I'm not sure if I fit or not. I probably don't. Alice seems a stuffy name and I'm anything but.

Well, not technically 'I'... I think you'd be better off asking that to those who actually fought. I don't really have any physical strength so I spent the fights... hiding.

[ Nooot proud of it, but what should she even have done? ]

I can tell you about that Alice though! She isn't really stuffy. She has very good manners, but it's not really all there is to her. Her story is about how she dreams herself away from her reality into a fantastic wonderland. The most noticeable thing about her is her curiosity, I suppose.

Her curiosity? [ Not that Rin knows the first thing about that, even if she's just grilling this other girl for information. Not one bit. ] Good manners should be present in everyone as well, so I don't see that being too hard to fill in for.

Ugh, but I'm not going to fill in for very long. Just enough to find a better replacement. You see, I have a lot of things I need to do back at home and I really can't waste my time here.

Oh and it's alright to hide if you can't fight. That's for the best really... You should leave it to those who can defend. Speaking of, do you know anyone who did fight against them?

I do. Pretty much everyone has been on the boat, so everyone besides the new arrivals should have something to say on the matter.

I'm pretty sure G, Ange, Amakusa-san, Francis and Spade all fought though, so if you see them around you can ask them.

Alright, thanks for the help. [ She's noting those names down in memory and probably a piece of paper once she finds a pen. ] I better not actively seek them out, but if I see them around, I can ask.

You don't think I'll be punished for inquiring about it, do you?

That's pretty unlikely. Until now they've always let us talk, even when they could still overhear all of our conversations.
They feel pretty safe as long as nobody actually takes an action there haven't been any punishments.

Action? Well, how do we know what kind of actions are permissible? How far can someone go without stepping over the line?

If there was enough material on that, I'd write guidelines.
But it seems we can do anything as long as it doesn't get to the point of actually trying to leave the island or attacking the rulers. They let us build the boat for the escape, only when we started to use it they got nasty.

So the people here haven't done enough to warrant a guide of any sort? Is that what you're telling me?

Well, I suppose it makes sense. It'd be rude to act out in a new place with complete strangers. You wouldn't want to give the wrong impression or anything.

We've been pretty careful up to now. Only a few of us have ever attempted anything, aside from the big escape, I mean.

We've mostly been trying to gather information and trying to work things out logically.

It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for someone like me to get abducted, but for the reason of filling in the role of this 'Alice' is unacceptable. I have many things I need to be doing back at Fuyuki City, so I'm afraid I can't stay for very long.

[ There are more important things at hand besides the name 'Alice' and one of them is that this girl has ears. ]

[ cue Usagi's hands shooting up to her hair to feel what's there - oh god, this is so scary - only to find her rabbit ears. .. Oh. Well, those are normal, at least. ]

You get used to them after a while! [ even if she's sort of self-aware now, so she's tugging on them a little. ]

I could never get used to weird ears like that. [ She'll spend the next few minutes wondering if they get in the way of the shower or with hats. ] They're kind of cute though.

I was told some bits and pieces. Seems as though everyone has their own opinion on the place, so why don't you tell me yours?

I've heard a bit about the Rulers from another. They're the ones people fought against recently, right? So they have a temper, do they? What happens when they get mad?

[ Whoosh, it's almost as though she asks all of that before she can even exhale a single breath. ]

[ Usagi isn't sure if she should tell this to a kid, really.. ]

Um.. well, they punish us, I guess! Didn't you ever get punished by your parents for stealing cookies from the cookie jar or something? It's a little like that!

Looking for the people we're supposed to replace... That sounds like a really good idea actually!

[ Of course it's a great idea, Rin Tohsaka thought it up! ]

[ The name is drawn out and broken, almost as though it were taboo for her to speak it. Her expression falters to match the tone and for what feels like an eternity, Rin's stunned into inconsolable silence. Eventually though, she pulls herself from it, but her eyes are void of the curiosity that was present before. ]

It's nice to meet you too.
