Dinner at my house on the 24th. Christmas presents are going to be exchanged whether you like it or know about it or not. Also someone, i'm not naming any names or anything, but SOMEONE should totally try and bag us a turkey.

Be there or be square. -Stiles.

Well, you ought to know better. Why would anyone leave his mother out of a feast day on purpose? Even on Father's nameday Mother attended the celebrations. We could have scarcely managed them without hers.

And anyway, it isn't kind to--to Mother, to say things like that. She would be very hurt, if she heard you.

[it's hard to talk like their mother is alive, but she keeps her voice as even as she can.]

Well, I don't. They come from beyond the Wall, you know. The things they do out there probably differ a lot from how we do things back home. Maybe they do have festivals with only one parent.

[She frowns a little bit - she knows her mother would be hurt, and she didn't mean it that way, not really. Her hands turn into little fists]

I didn't mean to say it so harshly.

[A beat.]

Mother tends to scold me more, though.

[she had noticed. it makes her feel ashamed now to think about how she had wished their father would scold arya for bringing him flowers, when she would give anything to bring him flowers herself just one more time. now that their mother is gone as well, however, she thinks he could have at least told her off for muddying her dress. it wasn't fair that mother always had to do it.]

Only because it's a lady's duty to see that her children attend to their lessons, and father was busy being lord of Winterfell. And she was the one the washerwomen complained to, when they had to launder your dresses all over again because you were crawling after newts through the Wolfswood.

[sansa is only guessing on that last one, since a lady manages the household affairs. it's stands to reason she would hear complaints from all the servants. sansa had been to young to hear much about the official business of the castle.]

[Arya hates being wrong, and this time, Sansa's in the right. Her shoulders slump a little as she thinks. She's been here for quite some time, now, and she's never been away from home before. She misses Father and Mother, and Robb and Bran, and Rickon and Jon, who left even before she did. She looks down at the ground.]

I suppose you're right. I'm sorry, Mother.

[She says that as if their mother can hear her a world away.]

I miss them so much, Sansa.

[sansa's heart twists in her chest to hear arya apologize to their mother as if she could hear--maybe she can, from her southron heaven. It would be easy for her to cry, now, but she doesn't want to frighten arya, she must be strong for her. She still doesn't know what to do, how to tell arya the truth, but she can't lie to her, either.]

I miss them too. I miss them more than anything--but we have each other.

[it's more than she ever thought she'd get, ever again. She rests a hand on arya's shoulder.]
