[There is a crash and a yell of horror.

The video is upside-down, but you can see that there are some curtains on fire and a lot of smoke, and Yuuta comes running with a bucket of water, throwing it onto the burning material, though not getting all of it, and it just grows again by the time he comes back with more. In the end, the curtains are lost, but Yuuta can easily repair them back to what they were. Later. Right now? He comes onto the device, looking horrified and pale, some ash smudged on his face.]

W-What?! I-I don't know what happened! I didn't mean to! How did that happen?!

When we're at home we can imagine up objects if we think really hard about them. It doesn't work with technical things or things from home, but aside... I'm not sure if there are limitations. You followin'?

No, I knew that we could imagine things and they would come to reality, with limits, but I did not know that... simple thoughts like those could do it.

I do not know how to control these powers. I don't think I can.

First step is to not do anything big with your powers before you know what they are. So no casting or hitting or whatever until you know what you are dealing with.

[ She thinks a moment then says: ]

Who is your denizen? Knowing who your denizen is usually can help you find out what are your powers.

Merlin, and that is most of the dilemma. I had powers back home, but this is Western magic. It is vastly different. My knowledge wouldn't even apply towards some of it.

[He wishes that there was a book or someone he could learn from, or anyone who had any ideas. Setting fire to something by just thinking of fire is dangerous.]

Magic from the West. England, and that, as opposed to China or Japan, where I am from.

But how do they differ?

[Yuuta is quiet for a few minutes while he thinks.]

The fundamental aspects of it. I know that Western magic only has four elements, but they are not part of much magic. In Eastern magic, there are five elements: Earth, Wind, Water, Metal, and Fire, and we have a focus on balance. Yin and Yang. As far as I know, Western magic is more... chaotic.

That's very astute. [ She wonders. ] But the same reside within the Western regions.

There are many more differences, from how it works in regards to spells to what you use it for or could use it for.

[Still, he frowns. No wonder he set curtains on fire.]

In a popular book series, wands are used to channel magic, and a spell is spoken to activate what you want to do. That is what Western maigc has apparently used for centuries in many traditions outside of fiction. We do not have such things.

We simply use words and the powers words naturally contain if we need something quickly done, or we use sutras in the banishment of demons. We have more elaborate rituals, of course, but those are for more important magic work. But we do not have a word that means 'explosion' that would cause one.

Well, I haven't heard of any wand-using back home. Mostly, it's down by hands and eyes and mouth. But I get the gist of what you're saying. Your magic is centered at the center, and can be activated by emotion. Is that right?

Not so much emotion as focus of our will.

[It's really kind of hard to describe it. It kind of just... flows?]

They're still not too different. But then, the time I am from, cultures have meshed together, so the only distinction is by ethnicity or race.

That would make a great difference. But is there a library? I might find something there that could help.

I think so. In the Castle. But no one goes there unless they have a death wish.

That the castle is so off-limits is becoming irritating already.
