Is there anyone who happens to know where I can get 1.5 grams of palladium and a few other odds and ends? [even though it was a bad design, he would be more comfortable with his Mark I reactor in his chest than a great gaping hole]

So portions of your memory data has been erased. I wonder if it's recoverable. Wouldn't know, though, unless I had access to the hardware your data is stored on.

It's stored in the depths of The World. In code that is inaccessible to anyone but those who know where it is. I was woven into The World itself, and I filled a role.

But now... the Cheshire Cat role is fitting. It fills something in me, for better or worse. And... I can be impish all I like.

I would be interested in learning more about this World you keep mentioning. It sounds intriguing.

Not really, makes more sense than magic being real. So this is just an extremely advanced VR interface. [he nods]

So you say you work with AI?

Yeah, got four of them running right now. J.A.R.V.I.S. is the most advanced of them. Don't think I could function back home without him.

JARVIS? And you built him for a purpose, I assume?

Most AI have some innate purpose.

Yeah, to run my house, help me crunch numbers, make sure I eat at least once a day, and a lot of other mundane tasks that I'd forget to do if I didn't have him.

That sounds about right. What do you suppose my purpose is? Since you've built AI. Can you determine that?

A lot of that would depend on your creator. If it was another AI then maybe protection, you certainly look like you could take on others in a virtual world.

[he pauses for a moment] Then again, Sci-fi always goes on about evil AIs set on enslaving and wiping out humanity. [he shrugs] If you don't remember your original purpose then make a new one, that's what intelligent beings do.

Enslaving and wiping them out? Haha. That's unlikely, given the nature of The World.

Trapping them, maybe... scaring and torturing them, sure. But that's so pointless. What sort of sense does that make? It wouldn't even be fun, it would be the same thing over and over again.

It's more funny to annoy them.

[he grins at that] Then annoy them. That's your new purpose if that's what you want it to be.

[Mia chuckles, smiling as well.]

We'll see. [ :) ] Even if there's still a chance something can overwrite my purpose, I think I'll do that until then.

Never thought about how difficult it would be to actually be an AI.

It's not so bad. I know The World better than a human ever will, after all.

I sometimes think J.A.R.V.I.S. has taken over the internet.

That would be fun, wandering about and baiting people into confrontational conversations...
