Vier. [ video ]

[So guess who's tired of pondering around, knitting and not really making any progress by now? Yes, this very nation here. But he remembered something...]

So... Nuclear weapons. What can you tell me about them? Just how powerful are they?

[ you keep being a really weird guy no matter what he hears, germany.. ]

What kind of conversation topic is that all of a sudden?
deceases: (but oh god now here it comes)

[personal profile] deceases 2012-09-28 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone was casually discussing nuclear weapons with you here?

[ ... the people in this place, seriously. ]

[This is really not good, from France's perspective. And as far as he's concerned, he's wanting to kick whoever decided to tell Germany about them sorry Domon.]

The only thing I will tell you is that they are dangerous, for both sides. Not just because they are a weapon, either, Allemagne.

Even handled correctly, they are dangerous. I...

[He frowns. What is he supposed to say? Prussia said he didn't remember the island when he left, but, that doesn't mean that would always be the case... and further, why tell Germany about something that he wouldn't be allowed access to after the war anyway?]

... I am not sure I should tell you specifics, mais... in a more basic sense, nuclear power is dangerous and the weapons moreso. Marie Curie and her husband Pierre were researching radiation, and Marie died from radiation poisoning. You may ask your housemate herself, I believe at their school they learn quite a bit about their "originals".

[Francis swallows, nervously, but continues.]

Working around nuclear materials leads to cell damage, even so far as the organ level... even with proper protection it is harsh on whoever is actually working at the nuclear plant or on the bomb in question. The radiation from the waste these things generate takes quite a long time to go away - sometimes hundreds of years, perhaps thousands.

It should upset you, Allemagne, because one single nuclear bomb can raze a city, destroy tens of thousands of lives, all within minutes. It is not like the bombings you are familiar with at all. There is a reason that they have only been used twice on populated areas.

[And that is all he really wants to say, though he's sure Germany is going to demand more.]

[Well now. This is interesting.]

Humans are always skilled at developing new ways to kill. Nuclear weapons have not been surpassed to date. They devastate both land and lifeforms, leaving survivors diseased. In many cases, the land is polluted for a long time afterwards.

They cannot be outrun. Depending on the size, they can devastate anything from a small town to a large metropolis. However, simply working on them can be dangerous.

Nuclear weapons cause both immediate structural damage, resulting in radiation, and secondary effects such as an occurrence known as 'fallout'. They are heavily irradiated, causing long-term damage up to centuries afterwards. The air is affected, the water, and the land, making it heavily poisonous... and causing mutations in animals or people who interact with it too much. Because of the wind, the fallout can be cast in many directions, affecting people nowhere near the area.

As to the people... it's usually fatal. Whether it is within months or days depends on the type of disease. Burns, loss of skin, pain, vomiting, comas, risk of infection or cancer. And then death, in many cases. Of course, this is only what I've seen. There were people back in my world who had survived this, after all...

Dangerous, if I recall the panic correctly. Not as dangerous as a meltdown of a nuclear facility, however.

Of course, that's all based on the reactions I've heard. What does it matter, in a place like this?

If it's a weapon, it is a weapon. They're never used for anything else. No one uses a sword to cut their steaks, so to speak.

[She looks... mildly concerned, to say the least.]

I'm certain you have already been told by now how powerful they are, but... ah... I do not know if Mr Japan is from the right time, but you may wish to ask him more about them if he is from after 1945.

[Liechtenstein would explain why herself, but she doesn't think something like that is necessarily her place to say.]

[To be fair, she is quite neutral and not terribly fond of war, since it's bad for her health. Small nation problems.]

...Oh no, not Mr Japan. [She hesitates, considering carefully before she decides to give the honest answer.]

Mr America, on the other hand... [Does she need to spell this out? Hopefully not; she really doesn't feel like it's her place to discuss those bombings.]
