[It's probably a really good thing Stiles stayed with Scott the night before, because this kid is not getting out of bed.

He doesn't need wolf senses to know that he hasn't woken up back home– that whatever shitty nightmare this is hasn't stopped being a nightmare. Scott's mom isn't cooking in the kitchen and her car isn't outside, and this isn't Scott's room. It's just a room in a house he's supposed to stay in and play pretend.

Scott pulls the sheets over his head, plunking his face into his pillows and staying as still as a stone. Maybe tomorrow he'll wake up and face the day, but not today.]

The "stalky version of reconnaissance" isn't yielding much by way of talk like the network is-- [ Good, he knew Stiles would get somewhere with that. ] --but we're getting a layout of things. The districts are enormous, from what I can tell from just the violet, but so far only two streets are inhabited.

[ Derek cocks his head, gaze shifting between the two of them. ]

I haven't been able to get into any of the empty houses yet. Any of them.

[puppyface]

So they're not replaced yet.

[The good thing about Scott being in a slightly bad mood was that somehow it always seemed to help him think just a bit more lucidly.]

They're not being used because those fairytales haven't been replaced yet, right? So there's nothing to use the house for?

[He turns between the two of them, a little confused. What exactly...]

What did you want me to do?

Yeah, except even the king of B&E over there can't break into them. He's a master at avoiding my dad, you'd think he'd be able to break into an empty house. [Gesturing back at Derek, he runs a hand over his hair, blowing out through his lips until it makes a sound. This entire place is like a rubix cube with a sticker missing.]

Weeell. There are four districts and four of us. So, Erica and Derek are working on the violet district, but that only covers one section. You can get a head start on the Navy, and then I can come join you when I'm done with this. I figure you're still pretty good at scouting, and you can distract our enemies if you stare at them like a confused do--yeah, like that. [Little grin. He's very trusting in your abilities, Scott. Usually.]

Not if there's magic keeping it locked to intruders, so that it stays a blank slate. [ He's not bothered by the newfound title presented by Stiles, since he's not ashamed of his rather illegal capabilities to get into places he shouldn't be.

Regarding Scott as Stiles speaks, he rises to his feet from the chair in one smooth motion, thinking on the plan that's being offered. It's a good one-- they need to figure out the island's layout, after all-- and he can't argue with it. ]

Depending on how much we cover today, we can do the other two housing districts tomorrow. That'd give us the areas that are most traveled in.

[puppyface]

Well, yeah, not just that. It's like when you're playing a video game like Pokémon and some of the houses don't work cos no one coded them. They're just there, there's... nothing they need to be. Even if you hacked it with Action Replay like we did in fifth grade.

[He pats his jacket, starting toward the door.]

Fine, I'm ready.

[hypercompetent]

[He shrugs his shoulders, grinning a little at the memory; his and Scott's ridiculous pokémon adventures had been the start of a decade of video game related shenanigans that had only very recently been interrupted, thanks to that whole werewolf thing.

But Stiles nods and taps the top of the compact.]

I'll be right here if you need anything until then. Reading through these stupid posts until my eyes dribble out of my face. Keep me updated. [When he looks at Scott, he raises his eyebrows--there's an unspoken "be careful".]

[ The reference doesn't go over his head-- he grew up on late 80s to mid 90s video games, so he knows some amount of pop culture contrary to popular belief-- but it's not one he would've made, himself. It makes sense, in its way, so he doesn't comment on it. ]

Everyone keeps in contact. Check in every now and then, and report if you've seen anything. [ It's an order, but Derek isn't stern or trying to be bossy when he gives it. Simply honest, if a bit cautious. ] Be careful.

[puppyface]

I'll be fine.

[It's clear he's still a little bitter about earlier, but he heads for the door anyway.]

That... Fabio guy said there's not a public map or anything, so I'll... keep track of where I'm going.

[hypercompetent]

--That's a good idea!

[Stiles snaps his fingers. Good one, Scott.] If you can mark out landmarks, we can try to make a rough map. Figure out where people live, what's safe, what's not. Once you guys get finished we can combine them all together and coloring book the crap out of it until we've got something sorta functional.

[triskeles]

[ Derek crooks a brow at them, considering that. Why hasn't anyone tried to do a public map yet? ]

I think I could put something together for it. [ He's almost considering as he says it, but he's putting together an image of the Hale territory in his mind. Even without his senses and abilities, the sense of navigation that was ingrained into him remains. He thinks he could draw out a map, if needed. ]

[puppyface]

I'll write down what I see and where, but I don't know if I can do a map. Not without knowing what the island looks from above.

[He knows his limits, at least. Wishing up a pen and pad of paper, Scott heads for the door- but pauses. He wants to know a time to meet up again, but without some sort of watch...]
