[Peeta really doesn't want to talk to anyone, but he needs to let the people Katniss talked to, the people she touched know. His expression doesn't change, he's hiding how broken and how much pain he's in at losing her. Anyone who knows him well ~~or has ever talked to him~~ probably knows that the boy's heart is broken at this loss.]

Katniss is gone. I can only hope that when the rulers take us from here they send us home. At least then she'd be with Prim and Gale.

[That's the only good thing about this. That she'd be back with the people she loved most in the world. Even if that world was currently ravaged by war and more death then normal. Peeta closes his eyes and the line of his lips turns downward as he tries to keep the pain from his face.]

Can you at least tell me that? Did she go home? Is she safe, or at least as safe as she can be? I can't .... I need to know that she's alright. That she's home. Please.

[He covers his face with a hand as he says something else that's muffled by his hand. If you listen really close what he says is "I can't live without her."]

[If he was in his right mind then he would be suspicious of all this.]

Did she by any chance have cat-related powers?

[He smiles, just a little.]

No. She's a hunter. The best hunter in all of Panem.

Panem. Is that your hometown?

No. My home district is District 10. Panem is ... well, it's everything.

District. Why is your home noted by sectorial numbers?

I guess it's easier for the capital to keep track of us.

Please tell me you're kidding. This is starting to sound like an internment camp.

[ She drags a hand down her face. ]

Tell me about your girl. Katniss. [ A sly smile slips across her lips. ] You've got it bad for her, don't you.

Yeah, but she's not my girl. She's in love with someone else. I just want to know she's safe and happy. Katniss, she's amazing. She's the sort of person that you want to do things for without realizing that you're doing it. The sort of person you want to follow for the rest of your life. She has no idea the sort of effect she has on people. She does things because it's what's right, not because there's something in it for her. She's the most wonderful person I've ever met. I'm grateful just to be her friend.

But ...you'd rather walk down the aisle with her, right?

I'd follow her anywhere she asked me to.

[There's a long pause before he looks up into the compact. His blue eyes are sad and broken. It's clear that he's lost the most precious thing in his life. Though she doesn't know it Peeta's talking about the only person he has left in the world.]

If she'd have me I'd marry her in an instant.

How old are you two?

[ She sees that look. She knows that look. She saw it in her husband's eyes when he thought he lost her forever. Saw it when he replayed the memory of her blinding in dream-mode. She knows what it's like to feel it, too. But she's not ready to let this boy walk the dark and narrow of the feeling alone. ]

And I don't like the idea of leaving you alone for now.

Sixteen, almost seventeen.

[He looks away with a frown.]

I'll be fine.

I'm nineteen. I got married about a half year ago. I remember what it's like to lose someone you love. But in my case, the miraculous impossible happened out of the possible and I was reunited with my love.

[ She shakes her head. ]

Nope. You need a friend.

I think Katniss and I already used up all our miracles.

[They're both alive, or were. That's more then either of them could have hoped for. Besides, if she's home with Prim, Gale, and her mother then that's where she wants to be.]

I have Fluttershy.

Doubtful.

[ She picks up one of the satin pillows at her elbow, setting the device down. ]

Well, great! She can come, too!

[He looks confused.]

Come? What are you talking about? I'm not going anywhere.

Well of course you aren't. Nothing's gonna happen. I'm totally not lying.

[ Big cheery smile. ]

I could just close the compact.

[But he doesn't. Even Peeta knows he needs people right now. No matter how much he wants to wallow in heartache and misery alone.]

Might as well, anyways, since it looks like I've actually got some errands to run. Damn. I might have to Imagineer the hot chocolate.

What?

[Peeta has the best damn oven on the island. You should bring the ingreediants over and make him cook.]

Get some rest and dry those eyes, Sweetling. I will see you tomorrow.
